Goat Milk for Babies & Toddlers: What Paediatricians Say

Goat Milk for Babies & Toddlers: What Paediatricians Say

Disclaimer: This article is for informational purposes only. Always consult your child’s paediatrician.

Age Guidelines

Not before 12 months as primary milk. Breast milk or formula for first year. After 1 year, goat milk becomes an excellent option.

Why Paediatricians Recommend It After 1 Year

  • Smaller fat globules — easier, faster digestion
  • A2 casein protein — gentler on gut than A1 in cow milk
  • 12% less lactose than cow milk
  • More calcium (330mg vs 275mg per cup), more vitamin A

When Goat Milk Helps

  • Cow milk sensitivity: Different protein structure, sometimes better tolerated
  • Eczema: Some improvement reported with A2 casein
  • Digestive issues: Softer curd, less bloating

Important Caveats

  • Not a replacement for breast milk or formula under 1 year
  • Low in folate — supplement through diet (spinach, lentils, eggs)
  • 90% of CMPA children also react to goat milk
  • Always boil before giving to children

How to Introduce

  1. Start with 50-60 ml mixed into current milk
  2. Increase gradually over 1-2 weeks
  3. Serve warm
  4. Observe for 2 weeks
  5. Pair with balanced diet

Our Malabari goat milk is farm-fresh, ethically raised, naturally A2, no hormones. Available in 500ml and 1 litre.

FAQ

Can I give goat milk to my 6-month-old?

No. Only breast milk or formula for under 12 months.

Good for lactose intolerance?

Not lactose-free, but lower lactose may help mild sensitivity. Consult doctor.

Does it taste different?

Fresh Malabari goat milk has a clean, mildly sweet taste. Most toddlers accept it easily.

How to store?

Refrigerate at 4°C, use within 2-3 days. Always boil before serving. Freezes well for 3 months.
